2000s - The new millennium
During the 2000s several of our club members competed and were successful in State, Australian and World Masters’ Titles. These included Carol Campling, Lesley Heumiller, Denise Leavens, Beth Lown, Nicole Pinchbeck, Leanne Swaysland, Ann Tulloh and Monique Wakefield.
In 2002 Carol Campling was honoured with the award of Australian Veterans’ Tennis Player of the Year and in 2019 was inducted as the first legend into the Australian Seniors’ Tennis Hall of Fame.
The club held successful Trivia nights to fundraise for Wheelchair Tennis : “Longueville Tennis Club would like to report a fantastic time was had by all at the annual fund-raising trivia night with over 80 people attending the night at the Lane Cove Country Club. They had a great night raising $605 for Wheelchair Tennis.” (The Lane Cove Village Observer, October 2004).
For several years there was an on-going period of vandalism and graffiti, including two smiley faces painted on the clubhouse roof. The problem was improved with security lighting.
2006 saw our largest membership ever at 456 members, one third of these being juniors. This led our President to remark “What would happen if everyone came to play on the same day !?” Fortunately that problem never arose.
In 2008 the demise of the White City Club led to several new members joining LTC. Their demise was our gain. Ann Tulloh, a Life Member at White City joined and since 2010 has been our very diligent Treasurer. Margaret Bisley brought her whole Badge Team and immediately joined the Committee. She has been an active, considerate and efficient President since 2010.
In 2009 all five courts were resurfaced, ten years after the previous resurfacing.
